Tokenization at the Retail POS

POS Cloud Connect brings Tokenization at the retail POS . It does this by integrating the POS Cloud Connect technology with retail POS systems and payment terminals. This creates a secure payment ecosystem for merchants and ISVs. How does POS Cloud Connect do this?  POS Cloud Connect takes advantage of PrismPay’s PCI Level 1 certified tokenization and card vault product. By utilizing the tokenization and the card vault, merchants and ISVs can provide their customers with the peace of mind that their credit card data and sensitive information is protected from hackers and other criminals. Tokenization is the only true way to ensure that your customer’s sensitive payment information is safe and secure.  Tokenization technology can also be used universally with sensitive data of all kinds. This includes bank transactions, medical records, criminal records, vehicle driver info, loan applications, stock trading, and voter registration. Improving Customer Acquisition

PrismPay tokenization technology provides merchants a mechanism to improve their customer acquisition strategy. We can do this by building an omni-channel strategy around tokenization. For example, a customer acquired through the retail store automatically acquires that same customer for the merchant’s mobile and website channels. This allows the merchant to focus resources on sales and marketing as opposed to building out tokenization technology for each channel. See the omni-channel page for more information.

What is Tokenization?

Tokenization is a simple concept. It is the removal of card data from the payment process flow, replacing it with a value (token) that is meaningless to a hacker or another system. In payments, the goal is to remove the actual cardholder data and primary account number (PAN) from being stored or transmitted over the internet whenever and however possible. Once a cardholder’s’ data has been replaced by a token, the token can be used in place of the cardholder information for all subsequent transactions from that customer.

What is a Card Vault?

A card vault is a solution that stores credit cards along with other personal and sensitive data in an off-site data center. You supply your data to be vaulted to PrismPay over our secure channel. The secure channel can be anything from an API call to using our secure hosted pages that can be added to your site or network for secure data collection. We generate unique tokens associated with the different data elements. We store both the sensitive data and the tokens within our data vault. A copy of the tokens is passed back to you, the customer.

When you need access to specific pieces of data, you provide PrismPay with the relevant tokens. Then, we unlock the associated data in the data vault and send it to you along the secure channel. When you tokenize sensitive data and store it offsite in a data vault, even when your systems are breached, there is absolutely no data that a cyber thief can extrapolate. This is because the tokens you hold are meaningless to them. This is a key differentiator between cloud tokenization and encryption solutions. Tokenization and card vaults remove payment data from you systems. This results in PCI compliance becoming much easier to achieve and maintain.
